The purpose of this research project was to make an approach to the history of the student movements between 1953 and 1977 in the territory called "Viejo" Caldas, made up of the current departments of Caldas, Risaralda and Quindío. The main objective was to analyze the changes in the actions of this social movement, particularly in Pereira and Manizales, at different times during the three decades of study, which began with the ascent to the presidency of the Republic of General Gustavo Rojas Pinilla. (1953-1957) and ends in the period of Alfonso López Michelsen (1974-1978) three years after the dissolution of the bipartisan pact of the National Front (1958-1974), at which time high peaks of protest were generated in the country on behalf of, among others, civic strikes, workers and peasants. The study of this period involves understanding the complexity of the political relations of Colombian students within the university and their links with social protest within the framework of the national context in which other actors, forms of action and lines of thought emerge, such as the "New Left" characterized by electoral abstentionism and a predilection for the combination of forms of struggle, in which there was a predominance of the use of violence and the creation of armed structures.
