La baja práctica de actividad física ha traído consigo un incremento en los niveles de sobrepeso y obesidad en edad infantil y en adolescentes, situación que evidencia un problema grave de salud pública, dada la relación que se ha demostrado entre la obesidad y el riesgo de enfermedades cardiometabólicas. Es por esta razón que entendiendo este contexto que sitúa a la población en edad escolar como un foco prioritario de atención en materia de salud pública y en perspectiva de lograr un desarrollo integral basado en las capacidades del niño y adolescente de agenciar sus propias conductas, este panorama hace necesario diseñar procesos de intervención que desde el contexto educativo, generen espacios que faciliten la adquisición de comportamientos, prácticas y conocimientos que promuevan unos estilos de vida más saludables desde el uso del deporte, la recreación y la actividad física como herramientas de cambio y desarrollo de capacidades. Desde esta perspectiva, la presente obra muestra evidencia importante acerca de la practicas que en materia de deporte y actividad física realizan los escolares en Pereira, al igual que refleja datos de interés que desde la visión de directivos, docentes, acudientes y estudiantes, muestran el estado actual de los procesos que a nivel extraescolar se dan para la promoción del deporte y la actividad física.
The low practice of physical activity has brought with it an increase in the levels of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents, a situation that shows a serious public health problem, given the relationship that has been shown between obesity and the risk of diseases cardiometabolic. It is for this reason that understanding this context that places the school-age population as a priority focus of attention in terms of public health and in perspective of achieving comprehensive development based on the capacities of children and adolescents to manage their own behaviors, this panorama makes it necessary to design intervention processes that, from the educational context, generate spaces that facilitate the acquisition of behaviors, practices and knowledge that promote healthier lifestyles from the use of sports, recreation and physical activity as tools for change and capacity development. From this perspective, the present work shows important evidence about the practices that schoolchildren in Pereira carry out in terms of sports and physical activity, as well as reflecting data of interest that, from the perspective of managers, teachers, guardians and students, show the current state of the processes that take place at extracurricular level for the promotion of sport and physical activity.
