The arrival of the railroad to the city of Pereira in 1921 was a carnival event and of great public impact on the daily life of the city. With its construction, great possibilities of access to the exchange of merchandise through the railroad trade in the central-western area of Colombia were opened. The arrival of the locomotives of the Caldas Railroad to the Ciudad Prodigio allowed the transformation of the dynamics of the city in spatial expansion, while new cultural identities emerged through the cinema, press, radio and advertising, all through consumption dynamics typical of modernity. In addition, it should be taken into account that, in the first decades of the 20th century, migration, the precariousness of rural life, and the search for new labor and educational opportunities led thousands of peasants to the main urban centers, attracted by the progress of their commercial, industrial, urban and educational development. This research work oriented its analysis towards the elements that determined the dynamics of expansion and consolidation of the city of Pereira between the years 1930 and 1940 of the last century, having as a starting point the construction and consolidation of the Caldas Railroad as a major work of the time, which was not only limited to the transportation of coffee beans for export through the main river and sea ports, but also became the mechanism through which the reactivation and integration of the internal and regional market of the central western part of Colombia was achieved. For the analysis, a review was made of the digital collection of the newspaper El Diario and other printed sources published in the city, in which there was a wide dissemination on the works of progress and urban development, as well as on the political, social and cultural life of the society of Pereira at the beginning of the century. The press and secondary written sources were used to understand how in the city of Pereira, the route and passage of the Caldas Railroad and the Quindío line transformed the social, political, cultural and housing reality of the people of the time.
