Esta investigación tuvo como fin comprender el pensamiento social de los estudiantes de grado quinto de la institución educativa Policarpa School del municipio de Quimbaya, Quindío, a través de la observación de las habilidades cognitivo lingüísticas: describir, explicar, justificar y argumentar, que se manifiestan en la aplicación de una unidad didáctica desarrollada en cuatro sesiones y relacionada con la diversidad cultural. La investigación tuvo un enfoque cualitativo, se empleó un estudio de caso y este, a su vez, permitió realizar el análisis de los resultados, los cuales llevaron a evidenciar que la descripción es la habilidad a la que con mayor frecuencia recurren los estudiantes, seguida de la explicación que también tuvo una participación importante y, por último, la justificación y la argumentación, donde se encontraron dificultades en las que hubo poca participación, como evidencia la investigación. También, se ubicaron las dimensiones de la realidad social, causalidad, intencionalidad y relativismo, en las que se encontraron limitadas intervenciones, aspectos que ayudan a explicar la falta de habilidades en argumentación y justificación que presentan los estudiantes y, en consecuencia, el bajo nivel de desarrollo de pensamiento social.
The purpose of this research was to understand the social thinking of fifth grade students of the Policarpa School educational institution in the municipality of Quimbaya, Quindío, through the observation of linguistic cognitive abilities: describe, explain, justify and argue, which are manifested in the application of a didactic unit developed in four sessions and related to cultural diversity. The research had a qualitative approach, a case study was used and this, in turn, allowed the analysis of the results, which led to evidence that the description is the skill that students most frequently resort to, followed by of the explanation that also had an important participation and, finally, the justification and the argumentation, where difficulties were found in which there was little participation, as evidenced by the investigation. Also, the dimensions of social reality, causality, intentionality and relativism were located, in which limited limitations were found, aspects that help explain the lack of skills in argumentation and justification that students present and, consequently, the low level development of social thought.
